Phoenix

PHOENIX - Phoenix is a giant bird with gold, red or burning feathers from Arabian and Egyptian mythologies. Phoenixes are associated with the Sun, fire and are considered as one of symbols for both immortality and life after death. In some stories they breathe fire.

Phoenixes were long-living, almost immortal, creatures who had ability to reproduce or reincarnate itself after death. According to some traditions Phoenixes built their own funeral nests before dying and then re-birthing themselves as young from the dead body. This process occurred once in every 500 years... After Christianity began to spread, the tale of the Phoenix changed so that the bird turned its funeral nest into a pyre and self-immolated. After a period of time, usually three days, a new Phoenix would rise from the ashes.
